Resin new material connector wins market

release time:2018-07-06 16:23:55  Views:

Recently, Molex, a full-service interconnect supplier, announced that its Stac64-e connector for automotive applications has received third-party Environmental Claims Validation (ECV). The Stac64-e harness connector is made from a resin derived from renewable plant castor oil and can be used as a replacement for traditional petroleum-based connectors with equivalent performance and quality characteristics.

This UL Environmental ECV validation confirms that the Stac64-e connector contains 71% bio-feedstock content and meets ASTM D6866-11 requirements. Molex's manufacturing facilities are ISO9000 and ISO14000 certified, and Molex recognizes that responsible automotive component manufacturers play an important role in driving sustainable automotive design, and Molex will continue to develop and build bioplastic resin connectors. Product portfolio to complement existing product lines.

Mark Rettig, Global Marketing Director of Molex, said: “The global focus on energy conservation and natural resources raises the threshold for automakers. The key role of the automotive industry in promoting sustainable development is not limited to providing more customers worldwide. Energy-efficient gas, electric and hybrid vehicles, and an inevitable development under this trend is the use of renewable plant resins to develop connector products."

The 20-way dual-row harness Stac64-e connector is designed to withstand harsh environments and successfully completed the USCAR-2 Class II verification test for mechanical, environmental and electrical performance characteristics of unsealed connector automotive applications. The bioplastic resin Stac64-e connector is a new addition to the Molex Stac64 PCB connector portfolio, with a stackable modular housing that can be combined into larger connector assemblies without the need for custom molds, significantly reducing time to market . The Stac64 connector meets the needs of navigation, instrumentation and other automotive applications.

Rettig added: "Under the demand for innovative automotive electronics, we see a boom in the global production of vehicles that use a large number of sustainable parts. Durable bioplastic resins are an excellent alternative to traditional resins. For those For customers who are interested in reducing the use of petrochemical resins without sacrificing quality, Molex's connectors made from bio-plastic resins are naturally ideal."
